Some of the leading companies and health leaders in the UK, besides the NHS Confederation has urged the government to address critical issues witnessed in the industry, subsequently helping to improve and transform services offered to patients.
The bodies have raised the issues pertaining to the lack of staffing and insufficiency in addressing pension crisis, which have put healthcare at risk. The same has been found by a survey conducted by the NHS Confederation. This was carried out a few days ahead of the UK general election. The study found that reforming social care, work force, and addressing concerns pertaining to capital investment are some of the critical concerns witnessed in the industry.
According to the findings of the survey, nearly 76% of leaders in the country’s healthcare network have said that it is a priority for the country to support the growing NHS workforce. In addition to this, a significant percentage of them have expressed concerns over understaffing which can put patient care and safety at risk. Furthermore, nearly 83% of the respondents believe that NHS Pension Scheme is having a negative impact on workforce.
The study also revealed that while the demand for healthcare services has continued to grow, with NHS currently offering treatment to more people than ever before, the key targets with respect to A&E and hospital care have reached all-time low since the standard was first introduced in 2004. Experts believe that it is therefore of no surprise that healthcare leaders are highly concerned about their current ability of coping with the demand. This sends out a clear message to whoever is looking to form the upcoming government that the gaps in workforce need to be mitigated while taking appropriate measures towards the social care crisis.
